On Thursday, April 14, The Browning School hosted five war Veterans for a panel discussion, which supports the Form II Oral History Project. Abner Greenberg, Robert "Bob" Cohen and Philip Kaye related their experiences from World War II, including their involvement in the Battle of Iwo Jima, the invasion of Normandy (D-Day), and Pacific Theater supply-runs, respectively. Additionally John Merson, a Veteran of Vietnam, discussed the differences of his tour of duty from previous wars, including the nature of insurgent warfare and the difficult post-war transition into society. Finally, for the first time, a Browning alumnus, Peter Decker (Class of '52) participated on the panel to explain his dual-perspective during Vietnam. Initially, he served as a "military adviser" in 1959, and then later returned in 1970 as a member of the press to cover the measures the U.S. had taken to expand the war into Laos. (Because Decker currently resides in Colorado, the Browning Technology Department helped to "Skype" him into the panel--and thanks to the Smartboard, he seamlessly entered the dialogue electronically.)
