Philosophy
The technology at Browning prepares Upper School boys to be lifelong learners who are responsible for their own learning. Upon graduating from Browning students should have a deep understanding of technology, which includes being skilled in accessing and processing information, confident when using new technological tools, and efficiant global communicators. Browning uses Google Apps for e-mail, calendar, and word processing. Students continue to use Moodle, Browning's online classroom management system check and submit assignments. Podcasts, movies, Wiki’s and other Web 2.0 technologies are used to increase collaboration and communication amongst students and faculty.
Presentation Skills
This three-term Form III requirement helps students develop excellent oral and communication skills. The computer component includes a trimester-long component devoted to multimedia presentation skills and discussions on the social use of computers. The end goal is to prepare students for all forms of media, live in the boardroom and online in social communities. Students become familiar with various forms of digital media and discuss ethical and social responsibility as well long-term effects and implications of all forms of Internet/online presentations.
Video Production
The introductory course for students in Forms V and VI provides an environment for creative expression through visual media. Through a hands-on approach, students learn the entire process of video production from scriptwriting to final editing and basics of film/video principles, including composition, camera functions, lighting, sound design, and editing. In addition, the program covers screen writing fundamentals, acting, direction and production planning. The program uses software such as Celtx, Garageband, and iMovie utilizing HD format.
