Nathaniel "Than" Ferris '93

While at Browning, Than played varsity soccer and varsity tennis under Coach Watson’s leadership. During Than’s junior year, he won the Sportsmanship Award in both sports. His senior year, he took home another Sportsmanship Award for tennis and was named the Most Valuable Offensive Player for soccer. Than was also the Most Valuable Player in the ISAL All-Star Soccer Game his senior year. Throughout his two years in the #2 singles position in tennis, Than remained undefeated in match-play, except for two losses to the Dwight School (the league champions).

After Browning, Than went to Denison University, where he played in the #4 singles position on the varsity tennis team there. His freshman year, Denison won the North Coast Athletic Conference and finished #10 in the nation in Division III tennis. After completing one year at Denison, Than transferred to Marist College. At Marist, Than played in the #1 singles position and was captain of the team his senior year. He was also the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference #2 Doubles Champion.

Post-college, Than began a college tennis coaching career. He held positions as the Assistant Tennis Coach at Marist College, Colgate University, and West Virginia Wesleyan College. We are pleased to honor Than with induction to Browning's Athletic Hall of Fame!
