Students in Grade Four constructed mini structures (out of toothpicks and gum drops) in Science class.  They experimented with various building designs meant to withstand earthquakes (cross-bracing, base-isolated loading, structural reinforcement, etc.) and put their own structures to the test on a shake table (constructed with rubber balls sandwiched between two sheets of plywood).
