The admission process at Browning begins in the fall prior to the year of enrollment. Browning is one of many schools using Ravenna, which allows families to efficiently track the status of their applications. Through Ravenna you will be able to schedule admission events and view decision notification.

How to Begin

To begin your application, go to Ravenna and create an account. Make sure to create your account using an email address that you will have access to throughout the admission season, as this will be your primary email contact with our school. If you have a question about your Ravenna account, please contact them directly. You should contact support through the email address associated with your account.

Rolling Admission Process

Start Here!

Please create a Ravenna account using an email address you will be able to access throughout the admissions process. Please use that email address to communicate with Ravenna should you have any questions about your account.

All forms and information referenced below will be available in Ravenna.

Steps for Submitting a Rolling Application

  • Contact our office about openings in your son’s grade level. (Please note that applicants to Kindergarten must turn five by September 1, 2024). You will need a bypass code from us to submit an application.
  • Submit a preliminary application. We recommend proofreading for spelling and capitalization as the information will go directly into our database.
  • Our team will contact you to schedule your appointments, which will consist of a tour, as well as interviews for the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the applicant.

Additional Steps (forms in Ravenna)

  • All Grade Levels
    • While not required, we would appreciate a family photo with your application. Photos can be uploaded from your account with Ravenna, or emailed to Esther Nunoo.
    • Please complete the ISAAGNY Parent Statement form.
    • Print and complete the Permission to Release Records and submit this to the applicant's current school so that they can send official reports directly to Browning.
  • Grades 5-12
    • Please submit Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). Browning also accepts the Character Skills Snapshot (CSS) from the Enrollment Management Association. Submitting scores from the CSS is optional. Standardized test scores are required and should be taken during the application year (September 2023-present). Please indicate The Browning School as an official test score recipient. Browning's SSAT school code is 1906, and the ISEE school code is 333490.
    • Please complete the **ISAAGNY Student Interests and Activities **forms.
    • Please delegate teacher recommendation forms by entering the name and email address for the teacher, and they will receive an email with a unique and secure link to the recommendation form from Ravenna. You will be able to monitor when the teacher has submitted the form.
    • Submit an applicant-written essay. Essay topics are available in, and should be submitted from, your account on Ravenna.
  • Grades 9-12
    • Complete all of the steps above AND
    • Please delegate a peer recommendation form by entering the name and email address for the peer (classmates, teammates, friends, siblings, etc). They will receive an email with a unique and secure link to the recommendation form. You will be able to monitor when the recommender has submitted the form.

Applicants to Kindergarten must turn five years old by September 1 of the year of entry. The deadline for preliminary applications is Friday, December 1, 2023.

Steps for submitting a Kindergarten application

    • Tour and Parent/Guardian Interview: Led by a parent volunteer, they are followed by an interview with an admission officer. Please allot 90 minutes for your visit.
    • Ask Me Anything: Join our Head of School, John Botti, and our Head of Lower School, Eric Ogden, for a Zoom Q&A session about what distinguishes Browning’s Lower School program.
    • Applicant Playgroup: Kindergarten applicants visit for 60 minutes in small groups (up to six boys). It is a fun and relaxed environment that is structured like an early childhood classroom. If you have more than one son applying for Kindergarten, please schedule each of your sons' playgroups on different days.

    • Student Interview: Student interviews will be conducted in small groups, based on the grade level to which the student is applying. This appointment is separate from the Family Visit.

Rolling Admission K-11 (after March 14, 2024)

Steps for Submitting a Rolling Application

Call our office to inquire about openings in your son’s grade level. We will provide a bypass code for you to submit an application if there are openings for the coming year. Please note that applicants to Kindergarten must turn 5 by September 1, 2024.

Submit an online preliminary application. To begin your application, create an account in Ravenna. Make sure to create your account using an email address you use regularly, as this will be your primary email contact with our school.

If at any point you should have a question about Ravenna and your application, please contact them at ravenna-help@communitybrands.com. Ravenna is happy to answer your inquiry by email. However, they require that all support inquiries are initiated through the email address you used to create your Ravenna account. It is important that they are able to validate your access to any information about your applicant's account to protect your privacy.

Please be mindful of spelling and capitalization, as we will receive the data exactly as it is entered. We recommend that you proofread the form upon completion to ensure that all of the information you provided is correct.

After you have submitted a preliminary application, a member of our team will reach out to you to schedule your appointments, which will consist of a tour, as well as interviews for the parent(s)/guardian(s) and the applicant.

Additional Steps

  • Please complete the ISAAGNY Parent Statement form and the ISAAGNY Student Interests and Activities (for applicants to Grades 5-12) which can be found in Ravenna.
  • Print and complete the Permission to Release Records (also in Ravenna) and submit this to the applicant's current school so that they can send official reports to Browning.
  • You will be able to send any teacher recommendation requests electronically to your son’s teacher through Ravenna. You can delegate these forms by entering the name and email address for the teacher, and they will receive an email with a unique and secure link to the recommendation form. You will be able to monitor when the teacher has submitted the form through Ravenna.
  • Applicants to Grades 5-12 must also submit a written essay. Essay topics are available in (and should be submitted from) your account on Ravenna. *Applicants to Grades 9-12 are required to submit a peer recommendation form, which requested electronically to your son's classmate or a teammate; a sibling, a cousin, or family friend; or a friend from summer school or camp, through Ravenna. Delegate this form by entering the name and email of the recommender; they will receive an email with a unique and secure link to the recommendation form. You will be able to monitor when the recommender has submitted the form through Ravenna.
  • While this is not required, we would appreciate your kindly including a family photo with your application. Family photos can be uploaded from your account with Ravenna, or emailed to [Esther Nunoo][2].
  • Browning accepts test results for the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT) or Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) for applicants to Grades 5-12. Tuition Assistance

Tuition assistance is available at every grade level, and is awarded on the basis of demonstrated need, which takes into account a family's income, assets and obligations.
