2018 Fall Athletics Wrap-up

  Fall Athletics Awards Assembly

Our fall athletes showed Browning "grytte" and determination in a season that saw the debut of the 5-6 competitive soccer team, strong performances from the 7-8 team, and a first-place finish by cross country co-captain Ryan Eagan '20 at the NYCAL Championships. Congratulations to all the Browning sports teams on a great season!

Ryan Eagan '20 took first place in the NYCAL Cross Country Championships.

Athletics Director Andrew West '92 provides an overview of the fall athletics season:

The Middle School Panthers, led by Coaches Protheroe, Stoler and Duchak, once again had a very strong season with a balanced squad that was strong at almost every position. The junior varsity team, under the leadership of Coaches Blake and Symons, also established themselves late in the season and came within a few minutes of advancing in the playoffs! The continued serious approach they established last year carried over to help this year’s team.

On the varsity front, Coach Watson, assisted by Felix Balamou, was very proud of the efforts put forth by the entire team. Despite graduating 12 seniors, the Panthers gave it their best shot. They showed some real “grytte” and continued to fight throughout the season, but unfortunately, they failed to make the postseason.

Another group of boys that should be very proud of their efforts is the varsity cross country team. Under the guidance of Coach Bernard and through the leadership of co-captains Ryan Eagan and Robert Michaelson, they had a very successful season, which included an eighth place finish by co-captain Ryan Eagan at the NYSAIS Cross Country Championships. Even more good news for the Panthers is that the Middle School cross country team, led by Coach McDermott, also did very well, providing Coach Bernard with more talent down the road.

Finally, the inaugural season of our 5-6 soccer team got off to a very strong start; the boys finished with a record of 4-1, including some big wins against schools that had easily beaten us just a year ago. Thanks to Coaches Cohn, Pischell and Wolf for all their hard work!
