Lower School Field Day 2017

According to Coaches Lauck Blake and Matt Brown, the Lower School boys worked together and competed with their classmates in a variety of sporting activities at this year’s Lower School Field Day in May. They offer the following report:

Heavy rains caused Randall’s Island fields to be closed, therefore providing the opportunity for the boys to enjoy an indoor field day in the Kurani Gym. Each grade level wore the same color shirt, and each boy was provided with a wristband of blue, orange, yellow or green. The final score of the games had little value, as the spirit of the day was to spend time competing and having fun playing games.

The morning started with the Pre-primary and first grade classes moving station to station and playing games such as Dizzy Bat and Scooter Relays, Score Ball and Team Gaga. The games, which were led by both PE and classroom teachers, were fast-paced, involved teamwork, focused on different athletic skills, and allowed the boys to run and have fun together.

The second, third and fourth grade boys spent the morning playing a variety of relay races with their classmates.

In the afternoon, the boys competed against one another in team games, including soccer, team handball, kickball, ultimate football and a four-way capture the flag game. Their teamwork and sportsmanship were on display at all times during the games, which were well played.

All of the activities were a blast for the students to participate in. The boys left filled with pride and a bit exhausted from the running, as they all worked hard and had fun spending time together. We thank you everyone who made Field Day an amazing event for the boys!
