Senior Boys Volunteer Across the City

Form VI boys annually participate in Senior Projects during the last three weeks of the school year, volunteering with nonprofit organizations across the city. After a welcome from their advisor, Janet Lien, who is director of Middle and Upper School admission, the boys reported on their work to members of the Browning community, including the faculty and Form V boys, on June 12.

The Form VI boys worked at a broad spectrum of organizations, including the Wild Bird Fund, the New York Common Pantry, Citymeals on Wheels and the National 9/11 Memorial & Museum. Other boys volunteered their time at Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center, Lower East Side Ecology Center, Health Advocates for Older People, and Future Leaders Institute. Bronx Freedom Fund and The Bronx Cooperative Development Initiative, along with George Jackson Academy and De La Salle Academy, were among a host of other organizations that also benefited from the boys’ hard work.

The seniors described the mission of their host organizations and what it was like to fulfill their project at each place. They also encouraged Form V boys to start early in planning their projects next year and to seek something that aligns with their interests. Head of Upper School James Reynolds and Head of School John Botti followed the boys’ presentations with parting remarks of their own, congratulating the boys on a job well done!
